The window art installation “Arubi” at the Shiseido Ginza Building, produced by Shiseido Creative Inc. and Hakuten Co., Ltd., with Hiyoshiya contributing through wagasa craftsmanship, has received the Grand Prix at the Red Dot Design Award 2024.

The work has also been awarded “Window Display of the Year” in the Window Display category at the FRAME Awards 2024.

The Red Dot Design Award is recognized as one of the world’s three major design awards, alongside the iF DESIGN AWARD and the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).

“Arubi” was selected as one of only six Grand Prix winners in the Brands & Communication Design category.

It was highly evaluated for its fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and contemporary design, its expression of inner and material beauty, and the unique spatial experience created through precise geometric composition and refined handmade techniques.

In addition, the work has received several other international recognitions, including the Bronze Award at the NY ADC Awards (103rd edition), the Grand Prix “KUKAN OF THE YEAR / Nikkei Inc. Award” at the Japan Spatial Design Award 2024, and the Window Display of the Year at the FRAME Awards 2024.

The motif of the installation is the Japanese wagasa (traditional umbrella). By intentionally exposing the bamboo ribs and decorative threads—normally visible only from the inside—the design reflects Shiseido’s ongoing exploration of beauty that already exists, and the redefinition of what beauty can be.
