Thank you very much to everyone who attended the « Showcase For Craftsmanship » event held at the Nishikawa Residence in Kyoto on April, 24, 2025.
This special exhibition was co-hosted by MEISTERSTRASSE HANDMADE, an Austrian craftsmanship platform for which our company serves as the exclusive representative in Japan, and NISHIKAWA JAPAN, a brand that brings the aesthetics of Japanese tea culture and artisanal tableware into contemporary life. The event was held as part of a cultural exchange initiative, inspired by the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo.
The venue, the Nishikawa Residence, is a distinguished home built during the Taisho era and designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Home to the Nishikawa family, long-time artisans of Kyoto’s Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki ceramics, the residence offered a serene and refined setting that beautifully complemented the works on display.
The exhibition brought together exceptional craftsmanship from both Austria and Japan. A wide range of works were featured - ceramics, metalwork, glassware, accessories, jewelry, and even chocolate - highlighting the artistry passed down through generations in both cultures.
In particular, the contrast between the delicate brilliance of chandeliers and glassware from Austria’s renowned LOBMEYR Glassworks and the quiet elegance of traditional Japanese crafts captivated many of our guests.
In addition, NISHIKAWA JAPAN offered a tea ceremony experience inspired by the ‘Four Refined Arts’ (calligraphy, painting, incense, and tea) - treasured during China’s Song Dynasty - with a contemporary touch. The space was thoughtfully curated by a team of specialists in ikebana, calligraphy, and spatial design, creating a tranquil atmosphere where guests could experience the spirit of Japanese hospitality. Later in the day, guests also enjoyed tastings of Austrian wine and Japanese sake - an opportunity to appreciate craftsmanship through the experience of food and drink.
‘SHOWCASE FOR CRAFTSMANSHIP’ was a moment where people and cultures came together through craftsmanship. While rooted in tradition, craftsmanship continues to evolve into forms that are relevant today. We remain committed to sharing the beauty and value of these crafts with even more people in the future.
Once again, we sincerely thank everyone who attended and all those who helped make this event possible.
