Founded in 1934 as a dedicated katahori (pattern-carving) atelier for bespoke Kyoto Yuzen dyeing, Nishimura Yuzen embodies a long tradition of craftsmanship. In 1967, the atelier’s successor began training under Yukichi Nishimura, inheriting all the techniques of Yuzen carving and dedicating himself to the art. In 2010, he was recognized as ‘ Master Artisan for the Future’ by Kyoto City’s Traditional Industries.
Building on these inherited techniques, the atelier creates stencils, carefully carved one by one, that speak to the heart. With the aim of bringing these works into everyday life, Nishimura Yuzen continues to explore new approaches in product creation and sales.
